Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 02:24 PM EST on Friday 27 December 2024 Valid for Friday 27 December 2024 to Monday 30 December 2024 Warning for the following areas: Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Capricornia, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, North West, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast Safety Advice:: Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures will range from the high thirties to mid forties with overnight minimum temperatures ranging from the mid to high twenties. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to extend briefly into eastern parts of Queensland into the weekend, then begin easing throughout the state from early next week. Locations likely to be impacted include Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Biloela, Gympie, Hughenden, Ipswich, Isisford, Julia Creek, Longreach, Richmond and Winton.
