Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds for parts of East Gippsland, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and Central Forecast Districts. Issued at 9:41 am Saturday, 30 August 2025. Damaging winds have contracted to eastern parts of the state and will ease by mid-afternoon. Weather Situation A vigorous southwesterly airstream continues over eastern parts of the state in the wake of a low pressure system that has moved into the Tasman Sea. Conditions will gradually ease during the early afternoon as the low moves further to the east. DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas: Central, East Gippsland, North Central, North East and West and South Gippsland For the GIPPSLAND COAST: DAMAGING SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with gusts up to 100 km/h are likely to continue throughout the morning, before easing about the West and South Gippsland coast around midday and easing over the remainder of the coast by mid-afternoon. For the EASTERN RANGES: DAMAGING SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h have been observed and expected to continue during Saturday morning, before easing during the early afternoon. BLIZZARD conditions are forecast for parts of the eastern ranges above 1200 m until the early afternoon. Locations which may be affected include Orbost, Falls Creek, Mansfield, Dargo, Mt Baw Baw, Mallacoota, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller and Omeo. Severe weather is no longer occurring in the South West and Northern Country districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED. 104 km/h wind gust was recorded at Falls Creek Airport at 8:14 am. 119 km/h wind gust was recorded at Wilsons Promontory Lighthouse at 6:12 am. 106 km/h wind gust was recorded at St Kilda Harbour at 1:59 am. 104 km/h wind gust was recorded at Aireys Inlet at 12:04 am. 102 km/h wind gust was recorded at Ben Nevis at 11:51 pm on Friday. 107 km/h wind gust was recorded at Mt William at 11:30 pm on Friday. 102 km/h wind gust was recorded at Warrnambool Airport at 10:48 pm on Friday. 104 km/h wind gust was recorded at Port Fairy at 9:56 pm on Friday. 117 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cape Nelson Lighthouse at 8:07 pm on Friday. Cancellation for the following areas: Northern Country,South West The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet. * Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Stay indoors and away from windows. * If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways. * Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live. * Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads. * Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Saturday. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210.
